Don’t Take Our Word For It: how sweet the sounds for speech therapist

Melinda Bumgardner, MA CCC-SLP, speech therapist at the Midtown office of Child and Family Development, received a fantastic note from a parent.:

Last night when we were putting <our son> to bed, he said both “Mom” and “Daddy” independently! Yes, I cried (just a little).  He had a little prompting with me saying, “What’s my name?” when he didn’t say it clearly at first. But I didn’t say it first for him to repeat. He did it independently. His verbal apraxia has been a bigger challenge for us than Down syndrome or ADHD.  I am so grateful every day that we found such an excellent speech therapist to work on the apraxia. He makes slow progress one word at a time – and each new word is a blessing.”
