Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Evaluations & Supportive Therapies
Psychologists with specialized doctoral level training in child development and diagnosis provide these services at C&FD. The scope of the evaluation includes standardized assessments of attention, language, memory, processing, reasoning ability, social/emotional functioning, and symptoms specific to ASD (i.e.,communication, social interaction, play, and restricted and repetitive behaviors). Detailed behavioral information is gathered from parents and teachers regarding function in multiple environments. Feedback sessions allow for parents to have ample time to ask questions and receive results and detailed recommendations for next steps regarding children.

Behavioral Health Therapy for Autism
Evidence-based behavioral health approaches for ASD focus on improving communication, social skills, emotion regulation, and reducing challenging behaviors. Key interventions include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which helps manage anxiety and mood disorders by addressing negative thought patterns. Social Skills Training fosters social behaviors, while Parent coaching empowers families to support development at home. Other approaches like play therapy help children improve communication and emotional expression in a way that feels natural and engaging. These approaches are often combined to create personalized treatment plans that address the unique challenges of ASD and co-occurring conditions. Learn More.
Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics for Autism
Medication management is an important component of an effective treatment plan for many children and adolescents with ASD. Treating the comorbid symptoms of anxiety, ADHD, or other concerns can allow children to engage in therapies that promote developmental goals, as well as decrease the symptoms that limit their participation in school, social relationships, and community.
Physical Therapy for Autism
Physical therapy includes activities and exercises that build motor skills and improve strength, posture, and balance.
Challenges with movement are common in ASD. Physical therapy can help a child build muscle control and strength so that they can play more easily with other children.
Occupational Therapy for Autism
Occupational therapy for ASD provides a range of interventions to address the following concerns; sensory integration, emotional development and self-regulation strategies, social participation and play activities, self-care routines to help with daily activities.
Speech Therapy for Autism
Speech therapists play a major role in helping children and adolescents with ASD learn to communicate and engage with other people.
Speech therapy focuses on a child’s ability to enjoy and interact with their environment. Typical focus areas include communication, pragmatic social language, articulation, auditory processing, voice/fluency and oral movements for speech and eating.
