Do you know someone with Down Syndrome, 16 years old or older, who wants to work or volunteer in their community?
This fall, Child and Family Development is pleased to partner with the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Charlotte (DSAGC) to offer the “Getting To Work”. Visit their Teen & Adult Programming page here.
The “Getting To Work” class focus is on building job skills, social skills and professional relationships.
The class is led by 2 experienced therapists from Child and Family Development, both of whom have experience in teaching social skills and life skills.

- Speech Therapist: Amy Elder MA CCC-SLP
They will teach adult communication skills and provide a structured and engaging way to learn and practice these practical interactions with others. This class is suitable for any individual aged 16+ with Down syndrome. Those who are working, want to be working or want to seek volunteer opportunities in the community are encouraged to register.
Topics include:
• Relationships: differentiating personal and professional associations
• Communication: introductions, handshakes and social awareness
• Community: identifying opportunities, making inquiries and interview skills (asking questions, answering questions, and interview etiquette)
Parents and caregivers will attend the last part of each session and be involved in weekly assignments.
Dates: Mondays in October: 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th (dates are tentative at this time)
