Birth-To-Three Early Literacy Ideas from an Educator and Mom

Jessica DeLing, MEd, an educator at the Midtown office of Child and Family Development, recently reviewed an article.

This article from Healthy Chilldren offers some easy ideas to start building literacy in infants and toddlers, including one from each age range here:

  • 6-12 MONTHS: let your kids handle books, even mouthing and sitting upon is just fine!
  • 1-2 YEARS: allow kids to hold, turn pages and point to pictures
  • 2-3 YEARS:  read favorites routinely, encourage them to “read” along with you and answer questions

Jessica and the 2 other Educational Specialists specialize in helping kids become avid readers from childhood into young adulthood.
