About Me

Shavonda finds joy in helping others reach their highest potential, bringing a thoughtful, person centered approach to every interaction. As a psychologist with over 23 years of experience, her work is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy, and she is skilled in comprehensive psychological evaluations. Shavonda is deeply committed to empowering young people and their caregivers, arming them with knowledge to help build confidence, develop coping skills, and move toward their fullest potential.

As a Team Ambassador, Shavonda serves as a trusted resource within the Psychology Department, offering both clinical and administrative support. She helps the team navigate day-to-day challenges and plays an active part in welcoming and guiding new professionals as they join the team.
Shavonda earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Winston-Salem State University and her graduate degree in Clinical Psychology from Appalachian State University and holds a Health Service Provider certification.

Shavonda has years of experience working with a wide range of clients, including those with ADHD, anxiety, depression, life challenges and complicated behaviors, and takes a cognitive behavioral and family-centered approach to therapy. She genuinely cares about creating a space where every client feels truly seen, valued, and supported in an environment where they can open up and thrive at their own pace.

Outside of Work

Shavonda loves staying connected to the community and spends time giving back. She serves as a leader and member of multiple organizations centered around assisting youth in achieving high moral and scholastic standards, addressing community disparities and advocating for those in need.

Shavonda also shares her passion for mental health as a contributing columnist for Pride Magazine’s Mindful Parent column, where she helps educate the community and reduce mental health stigma. Outside of her community roles, Shavonda refuels by spending time with her family and her dog, and is always excited about outdoor adventures, travel and photography.
