October is Learning Disabilities Awareness Month and you are NOT alone!
Learning disabilities impact approximately 20% of the population and can include difficulties such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia and nonverbal learning disorder.
Whether you are a parent, teacher, sibling or friend of a person with a learning disability, or if you have one yourself, be encouraged that there are many supports available.
As an educational specialist at Child and Family Development in Charlotte, I evaluate to rule in or rule out various learning disabilities, treat learning disabilities and consult with parents and professionals to ensure appropriate resources are in place for children, adolescents and young adults.
Some supportive organizations include:
- National Center for Learning Disabilities
- International Dyslexia Association
- Learning Disabilities Association of America
- LD Online
- Wrightslaw Special Education Law and Advocacy
