Marie Arrington MAT NCBT, educational specialist at the Pineville office of Child and Family Development, completed a certification in Handwriting Without Tears¬Æ (HWT).  HWT is an award-winning and therapeutic curriculum that teaches writing skills to children of all abilities.  Kids move through the following programs to the next as skills grow:

  • pre-printing
  • printing
  • cursive
  • also available: keyboarding

HWT was developed by an occupational therapist using child-friendly language, child development concepts, and fun teaching techniques. All of the HWT techniques are developmentally based, which means that a child builds upon the skills he has mastered. It is a multi-sensory approach that incorporates:

  • posture
  • strength
  • grasp
  • coordination
  • perception
  • writing

Marie offers HWT services to children in kindergarten- 5th grade who would benefit from some additional handwriting support in both individual and group sessions. She can help with:

  • uppercase letter formation
  • lowercase letter formation
  • number formation
