The Ivy + Bean series, by Annie Barrows, is about two girls that couldn‚Äôt be more different.  Although these two have opposite personalities, they are the best of friends.  These are great friendship stories.

Kid Approved:  A 7 year old girl says: ‚ÄúReading is sometimes not fun, but I always read these books.  Ivy is my favorite but Bean has the best ideas.‚Äù
