Summer Reading Group for students with learning disabilities

Marie Arrington MAT NCBT, educational specialist at the Pineville office of Child and Family Development, is leading a special summer reading groups for students with learning disabilities.  

I Can Read Too!: Summer Book Clubs is a group for children with dyslexia, dysgraphia or other learning differences that may potentially hinder their love of reading during the school year. These groups offer a welcoming and social environment that will encourage your child to not only read over the summer, but actually look forward to it! Each session will be engaging and interactive and play to a child’s strengths. As the children in these clubs are creative learners and thinkers, each discussion, assignment and project will be hands-on and fun!

Up to three (3) students may be enrolled in each group. A specially selected book about a child who either has a learning disability or has to overcome a challenge will be used for each group:

Rising 2nd & 3rd Grade Boys

2 sessions available

MON, TUE, THU 12-1

Rising 4th & 5th Grade Boys

2 sessions available

MON, TUE, THU from 3-4

Session 2: 7/17, 7/18, 7/20, 7/24, 7/25, 7/27

Rising 5th & 6th Grade Girls

1 session available

MON, THU from 4-5

Cost

Programs are offered in 6 session bundles. Full payment of $300.00 is required at the time of enrollment.  These sessions are not billable to insurance and are non-refundable. Unexpected provider-canceled sessions will be rescheduled to a designated make-up date and offered at no additional cost. To ensure optimal placement, a free 15-minute phone intake is required before enrolling to review presenting concerns and medical history. Weekly attendance is strongly encouraged to build continuity of skills. Attendees make more progress with consistent attendance to review and practice skills.

  • Families purchase and bring the book to every session.      
  • A minimum of two participants is required for the group.
  • Individual sessions are available in lieu of a group.
